Law Accessible South Africa (LASA) is pleased to announce the launch of its first project, on Monday, 2 September 2024. This initiative aims to raise much needed awareness of labour issues affecting a vast majority of South Africans and will run until Friday, 29 November 2024.
Labour rights are fundamental not just workers, but for the stability and well-being of their families. With Stats SA’s recent report stating that the official unemployment rate is currently at 32.9%, protecting and realising labour rights across South Africa, is more urgent than ever.
The project will address the ongoing labour crisis and the enforcement of every worker’s constitutional rights. It will focus on four crucial areas:
- Minimum wage laws: promoting fair compensation for all workers.
- The rights of domestic workers: ensuring protection and fair treatment of domestic workers.
- Retrenchment and wrongful termination: applicable legal recourse for affected workers.
- Employee maternity rights: safeguarding the rights of expecting and new mothers in the workplace.
Through this project, we aim to provide clarity on labour rights and laws in support of all workers across South Africa. Our goal is to increase awareness and help reduce the abuse and unfair treatment of employees in the workforce.
